WASHINGTON D.C. (KMOX) – Senator Claire McCaskill has joined a bipartisan effort urging President Obama to address the backlog of disability claims by veterans.

McCaskill says the average wait time for a first time disability claim ranges between 316 and 327 days.

She said vets returning home from war with serious physical and psychological injuries should not have to wait that long.

McCaskill is a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and daughter of a World War II veteran.

Currently there are more than 600,000 veterans in the V.A. disability claims backlog.
