ALTON, IL (KMOX) – The YWCA in Alton is still facing a dark future after the United Way pulled its funding and the organization’s online fundraising efforts are off to a rather slow start.

YWCA Executive Director Andrea Laymer is still hopeful they can raise $80,000 from to cover the United Way cut. The YWCA has only raised over $6,000 so far but others are stepping forward.

“The programs as they are now will not be able to last much longer than this spring but on a scaled-back level we hope to be able to keep movement going in the YWCA enough to build up a momentum to recuperate,” she said.

The YWCA’s board is meeting Monday to determine what programs they can keep under a reduced budget if the fundraising does fall short.
