WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KMOX) – Hospital officials have released the condition of a High School freshman who was shot by his suicidal mother.

St. Louis University Hospital spokeswoman Laura Keller says the father has given the hospital permission to release his son’s condition. Keller says the boy is still listed in critical condition and they do not expect that to change for a few days.

Wentzville police spokesman Paul West said officers found the boy from Holt High School lying in a driveway Saturday afternoon. “It was a situation that was unfolding. The officer did not know if the shooter was still active or not. Fearing for the young man’s safety, he literally put his own life in danger.”

West said police found 44-year-old Laurie Anderson of Wentzville dead inside the family’s home in the 200 block of Niagra.

Police have determined that Anderson likely did shoot her son, then turned the gun on herself. A 45-caliber handgun was used in the shooting.
