CENTREVILLE, Ill. (AP) — The secretary of a southwestern Illinois mayor is accused of bribery and fraud involving the alleged misappropriation of federal stimulus funds.

Prosecutors in St. Clair County charged 49-year-old Patricia Hicks on Monday with bribery and state benefits fraud.

The felony counts related to funds misused for a jobs program meant to help poor people find work.

Three other people already were charged in the case.

The amount of misused funds and other details have not been disclosed.

Hicks is the secretary for Centreville Mayor Marius Jackson.

An officer in St. Clair County’s jail said Tuesday Hicks was not in custody. Calls to Hicks’ home went unanswered, and it was not immediately clear if she has an attorney.
