BALLWIN, Mo. (KMOX) — The El Maguey at Manchester and Baxter Rds. in west St. Louis County may have been scrubbed and disinfected after last week’s surprise sewage break, but a St. Louis County health official doesn’t expect a grand re-opening before next week.

Craig LeFevre tells KMOX News that this sewage leak was one of the worst he’s seen in a while. “Honestly, people in the food program have said they have not seen something like this forever.”

West County firefighters stumbled upon the sewage while at the restaurant on unrelated business; the place was immediately shut-down.

LeFevre says once the mess is cleaned up, restaurant management still needs to get tests done by an independent laboratory.

Only then, he says, will the St. Louis County Health Department consider scheduling a re-opening inspection.

LeFevre says the health department hasn’t seen any reports of foodborne illness that can be traced back to the sewage.
