ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – On the first day of the NHL’s free agency signing period, the St. Louis Blues inked a one-year deal, Friday, with defenseman Kris Russell, then traded him to Calgary for a 2014 draft pick.

The 26-year-old Russell played in 33 games with the Blues last season, scoring seven points.

He’s a six-year NHL veteran.

The Blues are getting a fifth-round pick in return for Russell.
