ST. LOUIS (AP) A dog that was found badly burned and chained to a north St. Louis gate has died.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that police are investigating. The 3-year-old terrier-shepherd mix was named Brownie. The dog’s owner told police that she heard her dog crying Wednesday night and went outside to find that he had been burned.

Stray Rescue director Randy Grim says Brownie died Friday morning from organ failure as the result of the burns.

St. Louis Police Department arson investigators and Grim were at the scene Friday. Grim says a tree or bush was burned and that the burning dog apparently set the plant on fire.

A cash reward is being offered by CrimeStoppers for information about Brownie’s death.
