MAPLEWOOD, Mo. (KMOX) — A 24-year-old St. Louis man is accused of trying to use counterfeit money at a local Walmart.

Authorities say when he was turned down at the register the suspect fled, but was caught and arrested at N. Hanley and I-64. He had $1,100 in fake bills all 50s and 100s in his pockets, police say.

The Maplewood police department is investigating the crime. The United States Secret Service also has been contacted.

Charges are still pending.
