ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – It’s a Cardinals-Cubs weekend in Chicago but it could be a pain for some traveling north for a game.
Due to high-speed rail work on the route between St. Louis and Chicago, Amtrak had to make some big changes.
“Some of the trains will be represented by a combination of trains and buses, some of the trains will be represented solely by buses, and our other train, the Texas Eagle, will be detouring around the area,” Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari explains.
According to Magliari, that means an hour or more will be added to the travel time for each passenger.
A Cards-Cubs series usually generates heavy passenger rail use and Magliari says the Union Pacific Railroad scheduled the eight days of track work to begin Friday, not Amtrak.
“We’ve been simply notifying passengers and we appreciate their patience while this important improvement work’s being done,” he added.
As for the construction, it’s expected to be done by next weekend.
