COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Enrollment at the University of Missouri-Columbia has again topped 34,000.

The university said Monday that it began fall semester classes with 34,111 students down 144 students from the record high set the previous year. The freshman class of 6,227 students is the university’s second largest behind last year’s record of 6,560.

The university reported increases of more than 3 percent in the number of minority students and international students.


SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Enrollment is up at Missouri State University.

The university said Monday that the fall semester opened with 19,415 students at the Springfield campus, a 3.1 percent increase over the first day of the 2012-2013 school year. Enrollment at the West Plains campus is up 1.3 percent to 1,920.

If the numbers hold it will be record enrollment. Official census is taken on the 20th day of classes.

The number of first-time freshmen is up 8.5 percent over last year including a 36.9 percent jump in out-of-state freshmen.

Missouri State has increased enrollment in 15 of the previous 17 years.
