ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – With the transition from state oversight to local control of the St. Louis Police Department now complete, Police Chief Sam Dotson and his staff can spend more time working on the department’s big move.

Police headquarters will be relocated from 1200 Clark St., its home since the 1920s.

“We, through asset forfeiture funds, have purchased the building at 1915 Olive and through a generous donation from the St. Louis Police Foundation of $3 million, some bond money, and additional asset forfeiture money, the renovations started in early July,” Dotson explains.

The renovations to the Olive building should be finished by mid-April, according to the police chief, and the moving vans will be busy next summer. Dotson is hopeful to be operating out of the new location by this time next year.

The police department expects to save money on energy and utilities at the new location.

“And then having a moderate facility that officers are proud to come to work in and really give them the tools they need to do their job,” Dotson adds.
