What a great weekend this last one was!  Not only did it turn out to be one of the nicest weather weekend’s we’ve had in a long while but Boy Scout Troop 631 hit the road for the first outing of the fall season.

Ryan and I joined the group for the weekend campout and had a great time.  We stayed at St. Francois State Park.  Located just off Highway 67 in St. Francois County the park is a good one whether you want to camp in a tent or bring your motor home.

One of the things the troop did was to visit the Missouri Mines State Historic Site.  The site is the location of Federal Mill No. 3 which was run by the St. Joseph Lead Company for over 100 years.  While you can’t get into the mine itself (the tunnels flooded years ago) you can watch a video of what it was like to work in the mine, see a number of old pieces of mining equipment and best of all talk with some of the men who actually worked in the mine.

So, if you’re looking for a nice day trip or a place to camp this area might just be your cup of tea.
