ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Despite the federal government shutdown, 25 local veterans, including 17 from Aberdeen Heights Senior Living in Kirkwood, are taking an “honor flight” to Washington D.C. today.

When they get there they’re expected to be greeted by lawmakers, including U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, R-MO, but Korean War veteran Major Gen. Bill Branson is not impressed.

“I wish they would stay over on The Hill and solve the problems,” he said with a laugh. “All of them.”

Branson says he will have a message for Blunt and the others.

“Look, you know, this has gone on long enough. The American people deserve more and it’s time to get the act together,” he said.

Branson says the lawmakers won’t ruin the trip and that he is looking forward to talking with his fellow veterans from Aberdeen.

“You have a great mixture of real heroes and sharing stories of life with them is probably the greatest thing,” he said.
