After missing three games, and looking less than 100 percent in the two games before that, veteran cornerback Cortland Finnegan returned to practice this week for the St. Louis Rams.

The Rams will host the NFC West Division leading Seattle Seahawks on ESPN’s Monday Night Football this week, and Finnegan hopes to play, and possibly start at his regular left cornerback position for St. Louis.

“It would be great,” Rams defensive coordinator Tim Walton said, following Friday’s team practice at Rams Park in Earth City. “The leadership and he has a lot of playing experience. He has that toughness and it would be good to get him back out there and get him going. He brings energy to the defense, energy to the team and that toughness and competitive attitude.”

Finnegan last played during the Rams’ Thursday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers on September 26. He left that game early in the second quarter though, after suffering a hamstring injury that kept him out of the rest of that game, and the club’s three other contests since then.

“He worked yesterday,” head coach Jeff Fisher said, after Thursday’s practice. “He did a little bit more today. We’re optimistic.”

The only other player listed on St. Louis’ Week 8 injury report was rookie running back and kick returner Benny Cunningham, who did not practice on Thursday or Friday, while trying to mend a lingering ankle injury.

Seattle’s injury list includes five players — three of them starters.

On offense, starting fullback Derrick Coleman (hamstring) didn’t practice on Thursday or Friday, while starting wide receiver Golden Tate (shoulder) was able to practice both days despite his injury.

On defense, starting middle linebacker Bobby Wagner (ankle) also practiced both days, but only did light work on Thursday. The second-year player out of Utah State was able to practice fully on Friday though.
