MASCOUTAH, Ill. (KMOX) – Police conducting a well-being check on a man in Mascoutah Monday night found him dead and his friend lying on a couch.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. at a home on East Church Street.

Responding officers say a truck belonging to the homeowner, Richard A. Feldt, 59, was parked in the driveway but no one responded when officers knocked on the door.

When they entered the home around 10:30 p.m., police say they found the Feldt dead on a floor of the home. He had trauma wounds to his body and police believe he had been there for longer than a day. Family members say they hadn’t seen the deceased since Thanksgiving.

A 23-year-old man was found lying unharmed on a couch. He was arrested without incident by responding officers.

According to police, the homeowner had recently opened his door to the suspect, providing him with shelter and employment.

Charges have not yet been filed in the case. A news conference is expected to be held late Tuesday morning.
