With the second largest weekend opening ever in February, “The Lego Movie” exceeded studio expectations with a three day take of $69.1 million. Its prospects in the weeks ahead is strong because of excellent word-of-mouth and audience expectations.

The World War II drama about conflict and culture, “The Monuments Men,” came in second with $22.7 million. It was a smaller opening than expected, especially for a motion picture starring George Clooney and Matt Damon.

“Ride Along” starring the ever-popular Kevin Hart and Ice Cube scored $9.4 million in its fourth weekend. It has a total box office gross of $105.1 million.

Another very popular animated movie from Disney, “Frozen,” took in $6.9 million. After twelve weeks in release, “Frozen” has sold a grand total of $368.7 million. Disney has announced that a Broadway musical will be based on the film and will open in about two years. In fifth place over the weekend was the dating comedy “That Awkward Moment” with $5.5 million. The much awaited “Robocop” opens next weekend and is expected to top the box office race.
