COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Mo. (AP) – A neighbor and neighborhood police officers in the St. Louis County town of Country Club Hills are honored for saving two children from an intruder.

The awards were handed out Wednesday in a ceremony at Country Club Hills City Hall.

The incident happened Jan. 28 when a stranger followed 10-year-old Calian Edwards and his 8-year-old sister, Ahyana, on their way home from school and forced his way into their home. He also forced the kids into the basement.

Neighbor Keith Turner saw what was happening and contacted the mother, who was on her way home. Turner then called 911 and flagged down a police car, leading to the arrest of the 21-year-old suspect who was jailed and facing several charges.
