ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The taxpayer-funded St. Louis County Children’s Service Fund discovered at least two of its vendors have been over billing.
The audit found that the UMSL’s Children’s Advocacy Service over billed the county’s Children’s Service Fund by $300,000. A separate contractor, Better Family Life, over billed the fund by $50,000.
Children Service Fund Director Julie Leicht was asked if this was sloppy billing or potential fraud.
“To me there’s no indication that it was criminal, I don’t know,” says Leicht.
The agency is funded by a quarter-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2008.
Auditors are now taking a look at all bills from 59 Children Service Fund partners who have been awarded $44 million in taxpayer-funded contracts.
