A new study estimates that Missouri’s repeal of its background check law in 2007 led to a 16% increase in the state’s homicide rate. Johns Hopkins researcher Daniel Webster says it shows that background checks keep guns out of the hands of criminals. But Second Amendment advocates, like John Lott, author of “More Guns, Less Crime,” dispute that conclusion.
