BALLWIN, Mo. (KMOX) – Tired of paying property taxes? Why not move to Ballwin. Residents there haven’t paid property tax to the city since 1987, a tradition that the Mayor says he’d like to keep.

Mayor Tim Pogue says the city is able to balance its budget by relying on sales tax.

He says in the occasion that those dollars wouldn’t be enough, he wouldn’t be able to levy that tax on his own.

“It’s something that we’ve looked at in the past as far as possibly looking at a property tax rate and that would be something that would have to go to the voters for approval and we could not do it just at the board level,” says Pogue.

But he says the city has a balanced budget and a healthy reserve fund, so he doesn’t see an immediate need to start levying a property tax.
