Canada's parliament raised the Ukrainian yellow and blue flag on March 4, 2014 in Ottawa, Ontario to show solidarity with Ukraine, one day after the House of Commons voted unaminously to "strongly condemn" Russia's military intervention in Ukraine's Crimea region. On Twitter, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said the ensign is "being proudly flown on Parliament Hill to demonstrate our solidarity with (the) people of Ukraine." Three percent of Canada's population or 1.2 million Canadians trace their roots to Ukraine.
