CHICAGO (AP) — Former University of Illinois basketball star Deon Thomas has been hired as an assistant coach at Illinois-Chicago.

The school announced Tuesday that Thomas will join head coach Howard Moore’s staff. In addition, Jeremy Buttell was promoted from coordinator of basketball and video operations to assistant coach.
