GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOX) – A Metro-East Congressman is pledging his support for United Steel Workers union members in Granite City fighting a flood of South Korean steel into the United States.

Nearly 200 people gathered in a downtown Granite City park on Friday, holding signs that read “Save our Steel Jobs” and “Keep it Made In America.”

Congressman Bill Enyart (D-Belleville) said if the federal government doesn’t enforce trade regulations on South Korean steel, 28 thousand jobs could be lost in the U.S., “When we built the skyscrapers and the bridges and the Arch, what were they built with? American steel! Who built them? American workers!”

Enyart said steel imports hit 6.4 million net tons in just the first few months of 2014.
