ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The St. Louis Cardinals activated pitcher Jaime Garcia from the 15-day disabled list on Sunday, just in time to start an afternoon home game against Atlanta.

To make room for Garcia on the team’s 25-man active roster, the Cardinals optioned right-handed pitcher Jorge Rondon to Memphis (AAA).

The 27-year-old Garcia made a pair of injury rehabilitation starts on May 4 for Springfield (AA) and May 12 for Memphis (AAA).

He’ll be making his first appearance in the majors since May 17, 2013.

Today’s game is his 100th Major League appearance and his 91st game started.

Garcia is 39-25 with a 3.45 lifetime ERA.

He underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff in late May 2013.
