ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – It’s an historic first for the Chicago Cubs franchise and a treat for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Major League Baseball officials announced Friday that the Cards and Cubs will open the 2015 season on ESPN with a special Sunday Night Baseball broadcast on April 5.
It is the first-ever opening night in Wrigley Field history.
This marks the third time the Cardinals have been selected to open the baseball season since ESPN Sunday Night Baseball began in 1990 (the other games being in 1994 vs. CIN & 2007 vs. NYM).
ESPN’s Baseball Tonight will have an on-site, pregame presence in Chicago leading into the 7pm telecast. More details will be made available in the coming weeks.
