The St. Louis Rams chose to avoid the rain and cold weather by practicing indoors Thursday night, but with forecasts predicting rain in the D.C. area this weekend, the club will likely choose to practice outdoors on Friday.

The preparation for wet conditions could come in handy when the Rams take on the Washington Redskins this Sunday.

The main reason teams often elect to not practice in the rain is to avoid injury. St. Louis has been getting previously injured players back almost on a weekly basis, and with the team finally playing like it thought it would all season, it would be a terrible blow to get someone injured in practice.

On Thursday, only four players didn’t participate in the team’s workout at the Rams Park Training Facility in Earth City. Each of those players though, (DE Chris Long (ankle); OL Rodger Saffold (shoulder); OL Davin Joseph (not injury related), and DE William Hayes (not injury related), is expected to be available to play when the Rams touch down in D.C. to battle the Redskins.

Other players listed on the injury report include CB Marcus Roberson (ankle), LB Will Herring (foot), C Scott Wells (not injury related), and LB James Laurinaitis (ankle). Those four players all practiced on Thursday and are considered likely to play on Sunday.

Washington’s injured list is a bit longer, with 13 players being named, including starters WR DeSean Jackson (shin), LB Ryan Kerrigan (wrist), and S Ryan Clark (stinger).

The Jackson injury is perhaps the most concerning one for the Redskins, who don’t have many playmakers on their offense, and would be hard-pressed to replace a player who leads that club in receiving yards and touchdowns.

Jackson hasn’t practice all week and probably won’t know until game-time on Sunday if he’ll be able to play or not.

“Hopefully, he’ll feel better tomorrow and come Sunday, he’ll be ready to go,” Washington head coach Jay Gruden told local media following Friday’s practice. “If he’s not full strength, then he’ll be a longshot to play.”
