ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Turning a “stolen” moment into a “shining” moment.

That’s what the Cardinals, KMOX and Mercy Hospital are planning to do for the declared winner of this year’s Go St. Louis women’s marathon race.

Go St. Louis president Nancy Lieberman says organizers disqualified the top finisher due to cheating, so runner-up Andrea Karl gets the 2015 title.

Lieberman says a special finish line ceremony is set for Sunday night at Busch Stadium prior to the Cardinals versus Reds game, “Andrea is a lovely young woman, and she’s very excited. She’ll be running with the glory of a true champion when she comes from the outfield down the third base line to home plate. We will have a finish line tape for her to cross. We will then present her with her medal,  flowers, and some other gifts.”

Lieberman says it’s been a tough week for race officials as they dealt with the cheating scandal, but she’s pleased with the positive outcome.
