MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOX) – Madison County Illinois health officials are reporting a woman has died of meningitis.

Elizabeth Schreck, 30, of Durham, Missouri, was in Highland last week for a cake decorating seminar when she felt symptoms, complaining of a headache as well as neck and back pain.

She only sought chiropractic medical treatment, according to a release from Stephen Nonn, Madison County coroner.

Nonn and the health department have stressed there is no public health threat.

“There are no recommendations for preventive treatment because this type of meningitis is not considered communicable to others,” the release says.
