ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A St. Louis Rams player has Africa on his mind.
Defensive lineman Chris Long’s charitable foundation is raising money to build drinking water wells for some of the poorest regions on the planet.
Long says he launched the “Waterboys Initiative” following an off-season trip to Tanzania, “After my experience there – an eye-opening experience – I had the thought of how to involve football and create a platform for us to generate funds for a great group called World Serve International to save a lot of lives and transform a lot of communities.”
Long is calling on teammates -and even opponents -to join him in raising money, “It’s been interesting trying to recruit (Seahawks quarterback) Russell Wilson. I’m gonna try to take his head off come September, but now we are working together for this cause.”
Long’s foundation held a fundraising benefit last week at Morton’s The Steakhouse. It brought in more than $130,000.
