ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Barbecue lovers may want to find their way to downtown St. Louis during the last weekend in September.

Downtown STL, Inc. and Eximius Productions on Friday announced a new world-class barbecue festival.

“Tens of thousands of downtown visitors will have a fantastic new event to enjoy,” said St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, whose office hosted the announcement. “One that builds on St. Louis’ reputation as a great barbecue town, called ‘Q in the Lou.'”

The reference to tens of thousands of visitors is due to the fact that the weekend of the event, September 25-27 at Soldiers Memorial, the Rams will be hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cardinals will be wrapping up the regular season at home against the Milwaukee Brewers.

“We think that this will be a new draw for visitors to the region,” according to Kitty Ratcliffe, president of the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission. “We have almost 24 million visitors that come to St. Louis every year. They generate about 85,000 jobs in our region.”

“Raise your forks, St. Louis”, said Doug Woodruff, CEO of Downtown STL, Inc. “This is our block party. Q in the Lou marks St. Louis’ entry as the third point of what St. Louis barbecue legend Mike Emerson has dubbed the ‘Barbecue Triangle’ along with Memphis and Kansas City. Q in the Lou is a major addition to the fall festival season downtown. We can’t wait.”

Additional announcements will be made in the coming weeks as the music lineup is finalized and new vendors are added.
