ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – There’s an urgent call going out for more air conditioners to be donated for the needy.
The group Cool Down St. Louis is making the appeal as a heat wave grips the city.
“We need donations,” says the Rev Earl E. Nance Jr., chairman emeritus for Cool Down St. Louis. “We need donations to help the seniors and (people with disabilities) pay something on their bills to keep their air on.”
Earlier this summer the group teamed up with Ameren Missouri to donate hundreds of window AC units, but they need more as July heats up.
He says one recipient had his air conditioner stolen.
“While he was in rehab, he had been sick and in rehab for a month, when he came home his air conditioner was gone,” according to Nance. “So he has been in the heat for a while.”
They’re looking for new or slightly used, two years old or less, air conditioning units to be dropped off at any Vatterott College location.
Cash is also a perfectly acceptable donation, whatever is affordable.
Reverend Nance says the best way to get started is to log onto Cool Down St. Louis’s website.
“St. Louis has always responded in our time of need for the past eleven years of our existence,” he says. “It’s helped us when we made the call and we expect nothing less here.”
