ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – UPDATED (July 17, 9:27 a.m.) St. Louis Police are now saying they have all four suspects in custody in connection with the shooting of an off-duty police officer in the Central West End.
So far, two suspects have been charged.
The alleged shooter has been identified as 23-year-old Dale Wolford.
Police and prosecutors believe it was Wolford who fired shots at the officer as he sat in his car on private security duty. One bullet hit his bulletproof vest.
Wolford has been charged with first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of armed criminal action, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
The alleged driver of the car, 27-year-old Edward Davis, has also been charged.
The final two suspects have not been identified.

Two more suspects in what police are calling an “ambush attack” on an off-duty St. Louis police officer Tuesday morning in the Central West End are in custody, including the man police say was the shooter.
Dale Wolford, 23, is charged with assaulting an officer, shooting from a vehicle and armed criminal action.
Edward Davis, 27, thought to be the getaway driver, is charged with assaulting an officer and armed criminal action.
An 18-year-old, who turned himself in to police, is in custody and has not been charged yet.
A fourth suspect remains at large.

The 39-year-old sergeant with 16 years on the force was shot at Maryland and Euclid in the Central West End just before 5 a.m. Tuesday.
The officer was struck in the upper torso in his protective vest, according to police chief Sam Dotson, and was released from the hospital later Tuesday morning.

Police say a passenger in the car jumped out and fired into the officer’s car at North Euclid and Maryland.
