ST. LOUIS (KMOX)- Former Cardinals pitcher, pitching coach, and minor league instructor Barney Schultz died Sunday, September 6 at age 89.

The New Jersey native was a member of the 1964 World Series champion squad.

Primarily a knuckleball-pitching reliever, Schultz posted a 20-20 lifetime record and 3.63 ERA over seven big league seasons with St. Louis, Detroit, and the Chicago Cubs.

He broke into the majors on April 12, 1955 with the Cardinals.

The Cardinals organization expressed sympathy to Schultz’s family on Twitter, Wednesday night.
