ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – St. Louis city’s gun buy-back program is underway, and it’s being paid for by online crowdsource funding.
St. Louis is the only midwestern city to use this method.
Missouri statute prohibits gun buy-back programs, so the St. Louis Board of Aldermen passed a resolution authorizing it.
Board President Lewis Reed says the city is working with the police department to disable the guns, which will be given to the group Guns in the Hands of Artists.
The group turns weapons into thought-provoking sculptures.
St. Louis teamed up with the group GunByGun to allow the crowdsource funding.
