ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – You might be doing double-takes as you pass a gas station these days — but yes, prices really are that low.
Analyst Patrick DeHaan with price-tracking website GasBuddy, says wholesale gasoline prices took a beating late last week and that’s now being reflected at the pump.
“Almost like overnight, refiners finished their maintenance to open up the spigot that delivers that gasoline to supply,” DeHaan says. “That is what’s fueling the huge plunge we’re seeing.”
Gas can be had for as low as $1.51 in Oakville, and even in Illinois it’s going for well below $2.00 a gallon.
GasBuddy shows that the local average is $1.78 and dropping.
