EDWARDSVILLE (KMOX) – The Edwardsville School District is in a tough spot financially, now the state’s investigating to find out how tough.
The district has been on a state financial watch list since last March. In a letter addressed to Superintendent Lynda Andre, the Illinois State Board of Education says it’s conducting a financial investigation. Similar to the one launched to investigate Chicago Public Schools.
The district has to provide information about annual cash flow, projected cash flow, payroll amounts, labor contracts and more by next Friday. If the state board determines the district is in certifiable “financial difficulty” Edwardsville would have to come up with a financial plan and adhere to it under the consent of the state.
Also being investigated by the state: Streator, South Wilmington, Johnsburg and Lincoln Way.
The Edwardsville district offices were not open at the time the ISBE confirmed its investigation to KMOX.
