EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Two East St. Louis Firefighters are earning high praise today, for saving the life of an 82-year-old pastor they had to carry out of a burning home Sunday evening.

Fire Chief Jason Blackmon tells KMOX the victim was found on the floor of the home on North 14th Street and all three got out with seconds to spare.

“At the time the floor became spongy and holes developed in the floor, but it was feeling like it was going to give away,” Blackmon says.

Blackmon says sometimes it is apart of a days work and the firefighters were commended for the job they have done.

The victim had to be revived on the way to the hospital. Blackmon says the last update he heard is that he is now in stable condition.
