It’s evident that he is in the Dallas Stars’ minds. They trail in the series going into Game 4 and the only thing Dallas continues to talk about, “his kiss.”  Reaves has been like this all season, he gets into the other team’s heads with his antics on the ice. Whether it’s him blowing kisses or checking the other guy’s jersey during a scrum (we all remember that game). Other teams despise him on the ice like Blues fans do of Shaw or Roussel. The good thing about it is if Dallas is concerned about that for the rest of the series, then the Blues will be smooth sailing.

This is a no-brainer, but it pays off big throughout the season and the playoffs. Just like Ott, when Reaves is on the ice teams have to think twice about going after the Blues’ top guys. Mostly because they know it will be coming back on the other side against their guys. Game 3 was a great example of the protection that Reaves provides. Johns of Dallas put a questionable hit on Pietrangelo and Reaves stepped in immediately. His teammates appreciate this and it helps provide a tighter group on and off the ice.

This is not only big for the team but for the organization as well. The funny moments he provides on the ice, the strong punches he throws, and his occasional highlight reel hits have the NHL always keeping an eye on the team.  We all know about the Tarasenkos and the Pietrangelos during the season that get the notarity throughout the year, but it’s the moments that Reaves provides throughout the year that not only gives fans a few good laughs on the ice but also keeps the league and its fans watching the Blues at all times.

Just like Twist and Chase were, just like the Plagers were, Ryan Reaves has become one of the fan favorites for the Blues. The league may be trying to diminish the fighting in games but Reaves isn’t afraid to step up to the plate when he is needed. The back and forth with other teams on the ice and the extra “oomph” he provides to the crowd at Scottrade Center is just another reason why so many people wear #75 on their jersey’s. He’s also one of the most down to earth guys in the locker room as well.  Every team needs a guy to lighten the mood off the ice and amp up the energy when he is on the ice, and fans love it.

We’ve heard all season long how tight the locker room is with a team that has been together for so long. Reaves is a big piece of that. Always sticking his flip flops or permanent markers in other guy’s faces during interviews, or how about his scare tactics on the road. Successful teams have to keep it light off the ice during an 82-game season and Ryan Reaves is a big piece of that.
