ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A popular NASCAR driver and St. Louis-area native, Mike Wallace, wants to use his terrifying experience as a warning to others.

This weekend, NASCAR’s Camping World Trucks series comes to Gateway Motorsport Park, just outside of St. Louis. Wallace, grew up in Fenton, Missouri so this is a bit of a homecoming for him. The Wallace family, including his brother Rusty and Kenny Wallace were also members of the NASCAR circuit.
Wallace says he is recovering after a group of people beat him up outside a Rascal Flatts concert in Charlotte over the weekend. But he told KMOX’s Charlie Brennan he’s got a long way to go.
“…I’m still going to have to go through a lengthy process,” Wallace says. “Some dental repair, front tooth has to be removed, replaced with an implant – some eye vision problems. But, what a shame.”
Wallace doesn’t know why the group attacked him and threw his daughter to the ground. He says he is using the incident to spread awareness — these kinds of attacks can happen anywhere, and a lot of them aren’t reported.
“It’s the only reason why I’m talking about it,” Wallace says. “I want to make everyone aware that crazy things can happen to you and your family. Around people you don’t know, be very cautious.”
Police successfully arrested the attackers before they got away.
