Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump came to St. Louis and the Cathedral Basilica to speak at the funeral service for conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly. Trump spoke for approximately six minutes and was greeted with standing ovations both before he talked and after he was done.
The Republican nominee called Schlafly a true American patriot.
“A movement has lost its hero. Believe me that Phyllis was there for me when it was not at all fashionable. Trust me,” Trump said.
“Phyllis Schlafly is a conservative icon who led millions to action, reshaped the conservative movement, and fearlessly battled globalism and the ‘kingmakers’ on behalf of America’s workers and families,” Trump said following her death. “I was honored to spend time with her during this campaign as she waged one more great battle for national sovereignty.”
Schlafly died Monday at the age of 92.
She was an early supporter of Donald Trump for President of the United States.
