LONEDELL, Mo. (AP) – A 21-year-old eastern Missouri man is in custody after allegedly stealing a shotgun and an ATV and nearly hitting a highway worker, thanks to help from two good Samaritans.
Leslie Rector of Franklin County is jailed on $30,000 bond on multiple charges.
Deputies were called Tuesday and told the homeowner’s son had caused damage, taken a gun and drove away in the ATV.
Hours later, deputies were called to Lonedell. Authorities say the man was in an accident near a highway construction zone on Highway 30 after nearly striking a worker.
The man lost control and wrecked the ATV in a ditch. Two people passing by wrestled the suspect from the ATV and took the shotgun, then tied him up with tape until deputies arrived.
