ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Due to Friday’s heavy rainfall in the St. Louis region, organizers of the Great Forest Park Balloon Race had to make a tough decision Saturday morning to cancel the event.
It’s the first time in 44 years the event has been cancelled due to rain.
The grounds were just too soggy to be safe for the pilots, crews and spectators.
Here’s the statement from the Great Forest Park Balloon Race Facebook account:
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the Great Forest Park Balloon Race is canceled due to extremely wet field conditions. This is the first time in 44 years the event has been canceled due to rain. Thank you for understanding and we look forward to celebrating this great tradition again next year.”
Friday night’s Balloon Glow also was scrapped due to the weather.
