FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOX) – Fairview Heights police think they’ve solved the case of the bicycle-riding purse snatcher.

Officers were called to the parking lot of Winchester Plaza shopping center on Thursday afternoon, after a man was spotted taking bags out of parked cars.

The suspect ran from them, threw some items into a lake, and jumped over a fence trying to get away.

They took 36-year-old Michael Tayon of Imperial, Missouri into custody a short time later.

Tayon’s charged with burglary. His bond is set at $60,000.

Fairview Heights police say they’re working with Belleville police to determine if he’s linked to other break-ins.
