ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) – Tobacco 21 is now the law in St. Louis County.

To pick up a pack of smokes or refill your vape, you’ll need to flash an I.D. that proves you’re older than 21, instead of just 18.

But what’s to keep teens from crossing borders? St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger says neighboring jurisdictions are interested in joining.

“I was pleased when the city indicated it was interested in adopting Tobacco 21, and I look forward to our neighboring communities addressing the issue of tobacco and minors, as well,” he says.

The age raise takes effect in St. Louis County on Dec. 1 of this year.
