ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations is targeting women ahead of election day.

The union is going door-to-door across Missouri to get the attention of working women in an attempt to get the word out about “worker friendly candidates.” Their biggest issues this election season include equal pay, affordable education and paid family medical leave which are all issues that affect female workers.

AFL-CIO secretary treasurer Liz Shuler says focusing on a specific gender is a first for them.

“Normally, our program can engage people in the election is, you know, pretty much on bread-and-butter labor issues. But this time we decided ‘Let’s put an economic agenda that is specifically designed for women.'”

The union is also sending out 65,000 election mailers to get the attention of women.
