ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – (UPDATED 12:15 p.m.) The Blues have assigned goalie Jordan Binnington back to the Chicago Wolves, and head coach Ken Hitchcock says Jake Allen will be Wednesday’s starting goalie.

Binnington was called up to the Blues earlier this week after Allen looked like he sustained an injury in Saturday’s final preseason game against Chicago.

Allen was back in net during Tuesday’s team practice, and Hitchcock addressed the goalie’s health after practice, saying he is ready and will play in Wednesday’s season opener in Chicago.

Allen left Saturday night’s exhibition game against the Blackhawks with an apparent injury. Late in the first period Saturday, defenseman Carl Gunnarsson was tripped near the crease and landed on Allen’s left ankle.

Allen played the final two minutes of that period, but was replaced before the start of the second period.

The Blues also assigned defenseman Petteri Lindbohm to Chicago, but the move was made before Saturday’s game against Chicago.
