ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Americans are investing a lot of money into Halloween, and holiday mischief has already begun in the St. Louis area.

As KMOX told you Monday, Americans will spend $8.4 billion on Halloween this year, according to the National Retail Federation — a record.

That’s $2.5 billion on candy, alone. And many are spending money on halloween decorations.

Pumpkins, oversized spiders and webs, even coffins and spooky music – it all adds up and appears to be catching the eyes of thieves.

Kirkwood police say one resident in the 2000 block of Rayner reported an estimated $900 worth of Halloween decorations stolen from his front yard sometime last Monday.

No word on any suspects, or exactly what was taken.
