ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The number of Americans holding more than one job reached 7.8 million in September – an eight-year high.
We asked an expert in the field, Washington University law school professor Pauline Kim, what’s up?
“It’s an eight-year high, but it has been much higher in the past, as well, so it’s a little hard to interpret exactly what’s going on,” she says.
Kim says those with full-time jobs may be unhappy with their salary and are seeking to supplement their income. Part-timers could be concerned about stability and hours of their jobs.
Kim says it’s best to consult with your primary employer before taking on a second job, because a business can have legal rights in limiting an employee to one job if there’s a matter of time constraints or a conflict of interest.
