ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – With families across the land preparing for Thursday’s feast, Missouri Humane Society’s Dr. Kelly Ryan has some reminders for those with four-legged family members.

“Try and make sure you’re not giving your pet something they are not used to,” Kelly says. “And that’s not say that a pet can’t have a pet-appropriate treat, but sometimes the things people use off the table for treats just aren’t appropriate.”

Kelly says even if your dog has chicken on a regular basis, they might get an upset stomach from turkey. And bones are very dangerous for a dog, be it from turkey or ham.

Bottom line – know your pet and what they tolerate.

Veggies, Kelly says, are a great treat and won’t harm your dog.
