KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (KMOX) – (UPDATED 4:27 p.m.) An autopsy is being conducted today on the body of a student from St. Peters, Mo. who was found dead in a Truman State University fraternity house.
Kirksville Police tell KMOX that foul play is not suspected in the death of the 18-year-old, but say it’s early in the investigation.
The student was found in the Alpha Kappa Lambda house Thursday morning. He was a member of the fraternity, but lived in a dorm.
Adair County Coroner Brian Noe told KTVO the death was an apparent suicide, but investigators can’t say for sure until toxicology results are back, which usually takes weeks.
Noe said the cause of death for the student appears to be asphyxiation by hanging.
This latest death is the third suicide by hanging inside the AKL house since the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, KTVO reports.
The other two incidents both happened in August 2016.
